How to fix "Heater not heating at expected rate"
Discussion:
This error indicates a heater (extruder hot end or bed) isn't heating based on the heating characteristics curve that's expected. This could mean the heater isn't operating or the thermistor isn't operating. Look to see if heater in question is at room temperature (not heating at all) or has risen in temperature and just isn't heating as expected.
Answer:
If you recently replaced the bed, hot end, toolhead, or nozzle you must re-perform pid_tuning for Klipper to understand and support the heating curve of the heater which will have changed.
Extruder heater
If the issue is with the extruder heater, check the following:
Make sure the heat sock is properly attached to the hot end. If not, attach a new heat sock. It's required and expected to keep the hot end at temperature as well as for safety.
Check to determine that the toolhead cable properly is seated and the cable not frayed or broke. Check the motherboard to make sure nothing's disconnected there either. Fix accordingly.
In Fluidd, watch the extruder heater graph as it attempts to heat up, Is the graph showing it reaches temperature? Does it look to be maintaining temperature? Try to perform pid_tuning and see if it fails. If it fails replace the hot end as your thermistor or heater is performing erratically.
The thermistor is fragile and often is broken by owners trying to replace the nozzle or who clean up after a blob of death. It's cheap t replace yet easier and more reliable to just replace the entire hotend.
If necessary replace the hotend. You can contact Elegoo for parts, yet jot ends are available quicker through Amazon or AliExpress. Be sure to get the correct hot end for your model N4 as they are different.
Bed heater
If the issue is with the bed heater, check the following:
Check the bed cable, make sure it's well connected and isn't frayed or broke, Check the motherboard to make sure nothing's disconnected there either. Reseat the connectors. If necessary replace the cable.
Try running pid_tuning for the bed heater and if it fails this and the connections are good, replace the bed heating mat. That a pain so replacing the entire bed is your best bet. See Elegoo for replacement parts.
