Filament Profiles
Overview
Not all filaments are the same. This should be self-evident given different plastic materials, such as PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS, ASA, and PA, yet not all materials are the same either. PLA itself has numerous variants, so called plus, high speed, high temperature, silk, matte, glow in the dark, all behave very differently from one another as materials. PLA itself has rather wide latitude for its characteristics, which is what makes it so desirable for printing. Even amongst the same type of filament color can cause behavioral differences in the filament profile due to pigments. Glow-in-the-dark filament has abrasive strontium that's prone to clogs and requires different setting, just like white with its titanium and most amount of pigments, compared to black with the least pigments.
Because of these reasons, and because each particular printer has its own vagaries, it's necessary to calibrate filament profiles specifically for your filaments. Default profiles are a good starting place yet not for production use.
